How We Enjoy Gardens
We should say at this stage that this is not a horticultural society type of group . We very much enjoy gardens – but not necessarily gardening !
Group events are arranged roughly monthly or every 6 weeks. In the warmer months , these are generally visits , with , as far as possible , a guided tour by the owner or a member of staff – we learn much more about the planting and why it has been chosen that way . Past visits have included RHS gardens at Harlow Carr and Bridgewater , the Yorkshire Arboretum and several beautiful smaller gardens , some local , some further afield .
In the winter we have talks , on topics such as honey bees and “Behind the scenes at Harrogate Flower Show ” . We also take part in workshops and past events have included making a Christmas wreath and planting a spring display tub .
We have had a Bring and Buy Plant Sale for the last 2 years which raises money for a charity and is also a social afternoon.
There is a Whatsapp group for members to exchange ideas , mention gardens they have visited and seek advice about their own plants .
